Woman Who Fell from the Sky Height - 22", Width - 10", Depth - 12". One-of-a-kind figure whose head and limbs are sculpted from polymer clay, with a cloth body over a wire armature, and glass eyes. She wears the dress, leggings, and moccasins typical of early Iroquois dress, and made from original patterns. She stands on a base made from a turtle's shell. When Aataentsic, who was pregnant, fell from the sky, the world was covered with water. When they saw her falling, the water birds dove to the bottom of the water and brought mud to the surface which Beaver put on Turtle’s back. This mud, supported by Turtle, became the Earth. When Woman Who Fell From The Sky landed on Earth and gave birth, she became the mother of all human beings. -- Iroquois Nations Mythology |
