Babouska
$795 - sold

Height - 16", Width - 6", Depth - 6".  One-of-a-kind figure whose head and limbs are sculpted from polymer clay, with a cloth body over a wire armature, and hand painted porcelain eyes.  She wears clothing and shoes made from original patterns, and carries a basket of toys.

Babouska, or "Little Grandmother" is a traditional Russian Gift Giver.  Her story is much the same as La Befana, the Italian Gift Giver.  It is said that the Magi visited Babouska on their way to see the Christ Child.  They asked her to go with them, but she refused.  Later she thought better of her decision, and started after the Wise Men.  She never found them, but she now goes through the world at Christmastime, looking for the Christ Child in the faces of children.
